# How SignConnect Works: Giving a Voice to Every Sign Communication is a fundamental human right, yet for the 11 million+ people in the MENA region who rely on **Arabic Sign Language (ArSL)**, daily interactions often face a wall of silence. **SignConnect** is an innovative hardware-software solution created to bridge this gap. Born as a graduation project at the **Faculty of Computers and Information, Mansoura University**, it combines wearable technology with AI to translate silence into sound. But how exactly does it work? Let’s dive into the technology behind the magic. --- ## The 3-Step Journey: From Gesture to Speech SignConnect simplifies complex technology into three seamless steps: **Wear, Process, and Translate.** ### 1. Capturing the Motion (The Hardware) The journey begins with the **Smart Glove**. This wearable device is embedded with a precision network of sensors designed to capture the intricate details of Arabic Sign Language: * **Flex Sensors:** Measure the bending of fingers to distinguish between hand shapes (e.g., a closed fist vs. an open palm). * **IMU Sensors (Accelerometers & Gyroscopes):** Track the hand's orientation and movement in 3D space (waving, tilting, or lifting). ### 2. Processing the Data (The Connection) Once the user makes a sign, the sensors generate raw data. * **Transmission:** This data is instantly transmitted via **Bluetooth** to the companion mobile application. * **The Brain:** Advanced AI algorithms on the app analyze the signals, filtering out noise and recognizing specific gesture patterns in real-time. ### 3. Translation & Visualization (The Output) This is where the system truly shines. The app converts the recognized gesture into three simultaneous outputs: 1. **Text:** The translated Arabic word or sentence appears on the screen. 2. **Speech (Text-to-Speech):** The phone’s speaker vocalizes the translation, allowing hearing individuals to understand the user instantly. 3. **3D Avatar Visualization:** An interactive 3D avatar demonstrates the sign on the screen.
